Using Security Assist and Power Store 3 to work with EXISTING user registration

Hello!
I have an existing website restricted with a user registration system I built with Adobe Dreamweaver Developer's Toolkit. I have a very large database that contains a CustomerID that is tied in to the company's accounting system. We need to be able to pull up customers by Customer ID or company name. The existing registration system uses encrypted passwords and the CustomerID. (The CustomerID is pre-assigned and not an auto-fill.)

Here's my question - and I'm not sure where to begin.

1) I would like to use this pre-existing customer registration database with my PowerStore 3 log-in system. The existing registration database has encrypted passwords.

2)I would like to create a new customer registration system (or adapt the Power Store 3 one) so that from now on new customers are registered under the new system. (So I can use Security Assist to maintain.)

3) I need to add the fields CustomerID and Company Name to my Power Store 3 registration system and database and be able to call up the existing log-in system with it's encrypted passwords in my new store (created from PowerStore 3). It is crucial that the CustomerID and Company Name by carried throughout the registration system and the PowerStore because that is how we track customers.

4) I also need 3 user levels - Site Administrators, End Users and would like another level of Super Administrator. The Super Admin would be the only one who could change the content on the Power Store 3. (What is now just the admin log-in.)

I have the Power Store up and running but need to incorporate my existing registered users into the system. I have Data Assist, Security Assist. eCart 5 and Power Store 3. I develop on Dreamweaver. I'm knowledgable with MySQL database creation and modification on the server site. I can add fields to my PowerStore 3 registration database and import the data from my existing registration database to modify the PowerStore 3 registration database if needed.

How do I integrate this software to modify my store and site?

I realize that this is a big question - but I thought I'd start here because it seemed like perhaps the kind of thing that Security Assist / Data Assist was built for.

Thank you!

Carlene

yes, this can be done using Security Assist. Security Assist was the tool we used when creating the User registration portion of Power Store.

To start with, you will need to add any necessary fields to the PowerStore 3 users table, then export the user data from the existing users table to the power store 3 users table.

next, to be able to use security assist to make modifications to the power store files, you will need to make sure that the power store files are at the root of your Dreamweaver site. I have attached a screen shoot illustrating this.

We have tutorials for adding encryption to the Security Assist registration process as well as working with user levels. they are available in the Solution Recipes section of the Security Assist support page:
securityassist/

any values such as company name from the users table can be stored in session variables when the user logs in, the method of doing this is described in the User Levels tutorial.

Jason,

Oh thank you so much for pointing me in the right direction! I thought that this might be possible with Security Assist!

I'm sure that I'll have more questions as I dive into this.

Thanks again!

no worries.

before diving into modifying power store though, I would recommend getting familiar with security assist in a blank site with blank db.

Create a new site to fool around with security assist and go through the tutorials on the security assist support page, even the ones in the how to section.

Once you are comfortable with using security assist to create the login pages, then it will be easier to get into modifying power store.

I always find it easier to learn how to use a new tool when you aren't trying to modify something that has already been created.

Hi - I was wondering if I could get clarification on this. My Power Store is in a sub directory of my site. (It has to be because it's in a password protected area.) Will it still work this way?

to be able to edit the power store files using the extensions, the power store files must be at the root of the Dreamweaver site. You can still upload it to a sub directory of the remote site, but the extensions will be looking for the supporting files at the root of the Dreamweaver site.
