Yahoo not accepting sitemap

Yahoo not accepting sitemap

Yahoo didn't accept the sitemap when Surveyor sent it directly (I got the "limited exceeded" message). This is the first time I have ever submitted the sitemap to Yahoo, through Surveyor or otherwise. I then went directly to Yahoo, submit, to submit the site feed, and got the following error — "Sorry, your request is invalid"

Does anyone know what the issue is? The sitemap is very small, only 13 pages, and submitted with no problem to the other search engines.

Thanks.

If the sitemap isn't submitting even directly through Yahoo's submission portal, it would seem that there is something on Yahoo's end that might be causing this error.

I have done some testing with this and I was able to get the same error when submitting the site map with Surveyor.

Digging around a little I found this page that describes why this error occurs:

rate.html

It looks like it might be possible that the limit for API calls was exceeded for your ip address. You should try this again after the 24 hour period to see if you get the same error.

As for submitting the site map on the YSE please detail the steps you took here, and also let us know if you have an html or xml sitemap for your site.

Thanks Jimmy and Eric. Eric, my process for submitting directly was going to the YSE site feed page (rate.html), clicking "Submit Site Feed", selecting sitemap.xml from my local directory and clicking "Submit Feed." At that point I got the error message, "Sorry, your request is invalid." No other information was given. I have both an .xml and .html sitemap on my site.

I'll try resubmitting this evening, once 24 hours have passed since I last tried.

Ok, thanks for the details. I was able to go to the feeds section and get the same error. When I did this the top of the feeds view said Feeds - my domain name and below it was a / and a text field for me to enter the name of the feed. I made sure to upload the sitemap file then I entered the name and when I clicked on 'add fee' I got the same error.

I then browsed to a different part of the Site Explorer and then browsed back to the feeds area. When I got back to it I noticed that to the left of the text box you enter the name of the sitemap in I had my domain listed. This is different from the first time I saw this where there was only a slash there. When I tried submitting the site map in the updated interface it went through successfully. So it seems that there might be a problem on the Yahoo Site Explorer when submitting feeds. This was my experience at least.

Wow, you're right; when I returned to the entry page on Yahoo it accepted all the sitemaps I have for my sites! Thanks very much Eric!

Glad to hear that, let us know if you continue to have any troubles with this in Surveyor.
