UE email not sending

UE email not sending

I have spent the last two hours trying to add a email with UE to the attached contact_us.php file with no luck. I am doing the same thing in another file and it works. But no luck with this file. Can you take a look and see if you can see a problem in the code somewhere?

Server and Port Number

Hi,

Are you server and port number correct?

SMTP usually uses 25, 21 is usually reserved for FTP.

Also, your email server address is lanejmus.startlogic.com, but this is your web site, not your mail server.

Thanks
Ian

These settings are what my host told me to use for the smtp server and port. I am using these same settings in another file and it works fine.

Does everything else in the files I sent look OK?

You say that you use these in another file and it works, could you post back with the working one so that we can compare it to this one.

Attached are the files that work. Thanks for taking a look at this.

There are two main differences between the way the email is structured for each file:

1) the one that works is looping through a set of user emails from a recordset and is pulling the data for the email from hard coded text along with text pulled from a recordset.

2) the one that is not working is pulling all data from the contact form using $_POSTed values.

I just got off a chat with my hosting service (StartLogic). They confirmed that the previous person I talked to was wrong and that I should be using either port 25 or 587. However, I made that switch and now I am getting worse results. The email is either not going through, or if it does, it is taking a VERY long time (15-20 mins) to arrive in my inbox. I created a new file and started from scratch and am getting the same results...no email or taking forever (both results). However, the music_alert.php file (which I uploaded earlier) works like a charm every time (even after changing to port 25). There must be something I am doing wrong. or UE is buggy or something. Please HELP! I really need to get this solved. This is the last piece keeping me from launching the site.

THANKS for any help!

If you are now getting the emails but only sporadically it would indicate that you settings and the UE code are working as they should. It could be possible that the addresses you are testing with might be a part of the problem, to eliminate this possibility you should make sure to test the same addresses with both the working and not working one. You can also test the emails that are being used in the sporadic one with the UE server behavior that is working consistently. This should let you know if there is a problem with the email addresses being used.

Another thing you could try would be to hard code a value for the email address and test with it like this. Maybe the page is not posting the email address value consistently.

Please try these things out and let us know. In the end of the process UE is calling the PHP mail() function. So long as it is getting to this point the UE code is working as it should.
