ftp upload problems

hello, i am trying to upload my cms2 files to my server and am prompted with this error>

error: access to users\xxxxxxx\desktop\tools\powercms\htmleditor\editor\css
behaviors\_notes\dwsync.xml denied

my step as instructed were....downloading cms3 and extracting them to a sub desktop folder and renaming it powercms and then after definging the extracted file as my root folder leaving the images folder blank in my site definitions in dreamweaver cs4 and testing my ftp connection which returned sucessfully i then attempted to upload the files to the server and recieved the error message. i then changed my entire public_html permissions to 777 and recieved the same error....also after reading similar post where another user posted a similar upload file access denial reguarding an dwsync.xml file and was suggested to ignore error messages during upload and continue..which i did, i then checked my site in the browser to begin wizard and recieved this message on my sites page instead of the wizard...as follows>

Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@mysite.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request

Regarding WA's support. This is from the support front page:

WebAssist also offers free technical support for our products via our Support Forum Monday - Friday from 9am - 5pm PST (except major U.S. holidays)

which is probablly why you haven't gotten an exact answer.

Regarding your problem.......I will let support answer exactly why (if they know) you are getting this error, but I can tell you that I have encountered it also. If your FTP transfer pops up a message box and you are offered the option of skipping this file, do so.....if it is just a notification, then click "OK". When I encountered the problem, the upload was not corrupted.....the only problem was just this annoying message. And I encountered it a number of times during the upload since DW adds the _notes folder. I did some minor investigating and could not figure out why but at the end, the app worked...

Michael,

Just delete the dwsync.xml from the folders you are uploading. Once the files are up, they're up. If you have more to and fro between local machine in DW and your remote site, Dreamweaver will just recreate them anyway. They are not necessary, or part of Power CMS.

upload errors

Thanks neilo, I've a couple of questions...I had to bypass at least a hundred errors (I'm assuming that means there are the same amount of files to delete)...are they contained in any particular folder or are they scattered and I have to find each individually and delete? I'm trying to understand exactly where to find them..( is this the process everyone else goes through? And lastly would these errors have prevented me from reaching my website or setup wizard page? Thanks again

Hi Michael,

Dreamweaver creates one for each folder that has had any interraction between local and remote sites, to create its own record of sychronisation details, like a 'cache'. It keeps these in a folder called '_notes' in side each of your site folders.

The quickest way to sort this outside of Dreamweaver (unless you configure an FTP program to ignore terrors) is to open the site folder (My Computer or Window Explorer) and in the search input field (Top right of window) paste 'dwsync.xml'.

This will list all dwsync.xml files, and you can select them all (Ctrl A) and delete them. In PowerCMS 102 there will be 116 of them.

Uploading a site from within Dreamwever using DW's FTP, while very slow, shouldn't error any upoads, apart from (sometimes) just one instance of a message saying it can't find synch info, but you just click Yes or Ok or whatever the opion is to continue. So I don't know why you would get continued errrors, as this would only happen on one occasion (per upload, if at all).

There is no reason, assuming that all the rest of the files and folders uploaded OK, why you should not be able to reach your site and set-up pages, - so I assume that some got missed. The particular error message you got when accessing your uploaded site seems unlikely to be caused by just missing files, though, as the message would just say that it couldn't find the file.

Try deleting the dwsync files and uploading the complete site afresh. Hopefully that should take you forward.

Also worth getting hold of a free FTP program so that you can do transfers outside of Dreamweaver.

Cheers.

Nello is right about having a backup method to FTP files outside of DW. I use Firefox with the FireFTP add on ------ and they are free!

upload issues

Thanks I will try it as soon as I get home...still not sure why I was not able to reach wizard page....also just to be clear in case I made a mistake..please correct me if so....I only exported the folder which was meant to be renamed and not the very top folder ...so I excluded the readme browser icon during the etract...thanks again

I just unzipped the files to a folder and uploaded the entire folder. The name of the folder (I called it CMS) was the same name on the server
