Menu Writer ... does it REALLY WORKS ???

... well according to our experience this is a very limited imitation of “Menu Machine 2” ... to create simple-primitive menu is a simply a nightmare !!! I will create menu by code in no-time in compare to Menu Writer ...

Unintuitive-puzzle ... clicking on preview has no effect what so ever etc., etc., ....

This is on going story with WebAssist preventing us from spending money here ... !!!

Have you taken a look at the Getting Started Guide or any of the other CSS Menu Writer documentation? Here is a link to the support page with the guides and other information:

css-menu-writer/

In regards to the preview do you see a preview rendered in the preview area? What is the OS and version of DW that you are using? Please post back with this info and any other details that you can come up with for the issue you are experiencing so that we can look into this further. Some screen shots might be helpful if you can provide them.

@@@ I took a very good look on how to get started how ever the problem is, that anything I do it will not show in preview and if I will progress and click on apply the result on CSS page is whole bunch of nonsense .... OS 10.5.8 / DRW CS4
Also. What I want to create is simple six item one-level vertical menu so I do not have to fool-around with Flash nor Fireworks roll-overs ...

CSS Menu Writer is definitely compatible with your environment and DW version. Is it possible that you have the preview disabled? You can check on this under Edit > WebAssist Preferences, in here select preview from the left and check it's status. If it is disabled here then you will not see the preview in the interface.

As for the code that is being produced on the pages can you post back with a page in a zip file for us to see? Does the menu function for you when you view it?

The screen shots look as they should with the exception of the last one. Is this what you get on your live page? What is the browser you are working with? Also, are you testing this with a local testing server? You will see an unordered list without any styling applied if you do not have the necessary include files on the server you are testing from. Make sure that you upload all of the files to the server before you try this. Do you have a link where we can take a look at this?

“ The screen shots look as they should with the exception of the last one.... “ No idea what you mean ...

@ Safari, Firefox latest versions
@ I am not testing anything ... simply i am previewing result on my G5 using Safari, Firefox ...
@ All files neccessary for upload in moment of testing are on my G5 in site-folder ...
@ I do not have a link since I will not build a complex www just to test some simple menu ...

Many days gone and this thing CSS Menu Writer no-way to work ...

P.s. When I set a www page from Eric Meyer's CSS Sculptor and use CSS menu Writer all works fine ... how come ... (?)

When you are previewing your pages in DW you are actually viewing a copy of the page from the testing server that you have defined for your site. You need to ensure that the page is being served from a web server, either a local testing server or a live web server. As you noted the menu will work fine when it is served from a web server.

There does not seem to be any problem with your CSS Menu Writer, you just need to setup your testing server correctly before you can preview the menu. We have some docs on setting up a local testing server and defining the site properly in DW. I'm not sure if the testing server setup covers the older G5 computers, it might be specific to Intel based machines:

Testing server for Mac
mamp_for_mac.php

Defining a dynamic site
dynamic_site_definitions.php

If you have a local testing server defined you can preview with this. If you define your testing server to point to a live web server you can preview the files like this as well.

CSS Menu Writer creates html and php code. The code that CSS Menu Writer produces will only work when it is served from a web server. This is true for any web technology other than simple html. The menus will be viewed from a web page, so the pages must be served from a web server. It does not matter if the server is local or remote, only that you can access it.
