Email content from select list label

I have created a contact form where you select a department from a select list.

In the email I want to personalise it with the name of the department that is being contacted, however the select list insert only inserts the value and not the label.

Is there a way to achieve this?

you can use javascript to populate a hidden form element with the label of the selected item in the select list, then output the value of the hidden element.

here is an example:
