Upgrading from PowerCMS 1

PowerCMS 1 includes ‘Release notes’ listing the steps to be followed when upgrading from an earlier version. PowerCMS 2 does not appear to provide any guidance for developers upgrading from PowerCMS 1. If these are available, could someone please indicate where they can be found.

The introductory sentence in the Installation Wizard says "To upgrade from an older version of PowerCMS, use the same database as the older version. "

That's about it. PowerCMS will migrate the content from your old database to the new one.

Does that mean that using the install process with PowerCMS 2 will not overwrite the existing Database and Connections folders from PowerCMS 1, nor modify the WA_Globals.php file?

The Database Connection file in PowerCMS 2 is named differently than the one used in PowerCMS 1. In PowerCMS 2 this file is created for you as you go through the Installation Wizard.

The WA_Globals file is named the same, but contains very different content that you should not have to touch at all.

You could either replace all the old PowerCMS files with the new files and run the Installation Wizard, or upload the PowerCMS 2 files to a different directory, but use the same database connection information to have PowerCMS 2 migrate your content.
