Automatically adding user access level

Automatically adding user access level

Hi, I am creating a site which redirects users after login based on their user access level. There are 4 different types of user, each with different registration and site areas (secured with access rules).

I can see how to create the access level-based redirection, however, I cannot find anywhere how to automatically assign differing access levels to the 'access level' table column during the separate user registrations. Since there will hopefully be large numbers of these different users, the registration (and access level assignment) needs to be automatic.

Thanks for your help.

For security reasons, the access level needs to be granted by the site admin manually.

Only if the access level is determined based on some sort of user input during the registration process would you be able to automatically set the access level, but then you open up a security hole where the registrant could put false information in that setting to achieve an elevated access level that you may not want that particular user to be granted.

As there will be separate registrations for different types of user, couldn't there be some server side code that sets the access level depending on the registration form that is submitted?

thanks for your help.

Sure, if all users that register on one registration form will get the same access level, you can use the DataAssist Insert record behavior and set the user level column to a hard coded value. just change the hard coded value being used from one registration page to another.

That sounds like the right approach.

I have created the registration pages using security assist and form builder. In the server behaviours there is a standard dreamweaver insert behaviour adding the form values to the user table, however this doesnt seem to allow static values to be assigned, only form elements.

If i use the data assist insert behaviour to assign the access level, this creates an entirely new table entry. Is there a way i can add a static value to the table using the insert behaviour created by form builder, along with the rest of the form data?

thanks again,

replace the dreamweaver insert record behavior with the DataAssist Insert record behavior.

In the DataAssist insert record behavior, you can bind the other columns to the form elements, and add the static value for the userlevel column
