Trigger suggestions

Unless I've missed something - the current triggers are limited

Triggers need to be a proper conditions
not just a SINGLE test
ie if a button is pressed - single condition
is no good if the user needs to check if a button is pressed and a server variable is set
or a condition has been passed. You ned to be able to type in a condition or multiple conditions

eg
An admin might want to update user record - change phone number - doesnt need an email

BUT updating the same user record - activated account (check box) does

Both have MYSQL updates and both have the UPDATE button pressed
BUT only the second one had the user checkbox (activate account) value ==1

lastly....

Any safe way to run an email automatically ie cron job. without leaving it open to abuse?

You can use SecurityAssist rules as triggers. This opens up creating very complex triggers when necessary.

Running email as a cron job is usually a matter of logging emails to be sent into a database and creating a page that sends the emails from the database at a regular interval, marking them sent or deleting them when completed.

It shouldn't open anything to abuse, but it might be easier to just use UE4 and delays for a similar effect.

RE Cron

Have a Veterinary Clinic Website
They want to send email reminders for vaccinations based on a date

I could check and run a script everytime someone logged into the admin
but that could leave gaps

Much nicer to have a script that is run, say, once a day a emails from a recordset of addresses those who are due for a reminder email?

You should be able to run a cron for that using the registration table as the table of emails to send from and basing the recipients on a query of that table that returns the correct users based on their last reminder date field.
