Can I chart with a varchar column?

Can I chart with a varchar column?

I have a pet table that has a column for type (e.g. PetType). It will contain either "Dog" or "Cat". I'm trying to create a pie chart of this column. I only see one of the values in the top left area of the chart (e.g. "Cat") and only a "-" in the middle of the chart.

Thanks

I can't actually see the screenshot very clearly, so I'm not sure what settings you've set, but you should be able to use the values to set up a pie chart. Did you set the petType as the X Label or the Y Label and what did you set for the other label that isn't set to petType?

I attached a better screenshot. My Data Source X Label is PawsType and my Y Value is PawsType. Group by Value.

This is my code.

<?php if(!isset($_SESSION)){session_start();}?><!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">

The x-label can be specified as a string column, but the y-label has to be a number column. If you change the y-label to another column, like the id column, and change the calculation to Count, you should get the result you were looking for.
