Search parameters

Dear All,
I have entered products into my product database. They display as expected in the navigation Category / subcategory. However when I try searching, I have problems.

I have tried searching for product SKUs which I have added. This works. But customers will not know my product ids. So I have tried searching for the "name" of the product. I get a repeat of the previous successful search, not a new result.

Does the search function only work on the SKU id "out of the box"? Do I need to write additional code to search any other fields?

Many thanks, Nick

Searching for product name should work fine out of the box. Do you have a url where I can see this issue so I can test it?

Search Parameters

Dear Jimmy

My test site is: index.php

I can search for Tiger1 and Calligraphy and get a result. But if I search for Tiger2 or for Polar Bear, I get a "No results for your search". And SKUs seem to work OK.

(Hope you like the pictures! ~ customer still not sure about a colour scheme)

Many thanks. Nick

... think I have hit it. Or rather, what I did not always do when I used the search function, was press the search button. Sometimes I just hit "enter".

It seems to work most of the time using the button, but not using "enter key". Tiger2 / tiger2 just will not come up. Neither will any tiger when I say "tiger" rather than Tiger1 / Tiger2.

again, many thanks ~ Nick

The search seems to be working fine for me when I run it. It doesn't look like you have a tiger2 product (at least not active) in the store. Which browser are you testing on? Make sure you install any updates that that browser has, so that you are running the latest version of the browser.

Have I said before how much I appreciate your help? Yes, you are quite right ~ I missed out a little tick! (to make it available)

So I assume the search function searches the SKU, the name, and the long / short description fields? And I assume common words (the, and, to, etc) are masked out. And that searches are case-dependant (if it says Tiger, it wont find tiger)? Are my assumptions correct?

Many thanks, Nick

Yes, the search will be done on the sku, name and description fields. The common words are not omitted, and the search is not case dependent.
