Try removing that first remarked out Doctype declaration, see if that does it.

Thanks neilo for your answer.

<!--<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> -->
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">

I have uncommented the first line and it works now either in IE or Firefox

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd">
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">

Thanks

Cool schermak, glad it's working. The only thing I would query is why there are two DOCTYPE declaration lines at the top of the page, there should only really be one.

It might be worth completely removing the one that doesn't match the DOCTYPE of the rest of your site's pages.

As Neilo pointed out, having two doctype tags on your page is not standard. You should figure out which one works for your site and remove the other one. Make sure you don't leave any whitespace (ie, an empty line) when you remove the unnecessary doctype tag.

Many thanks to both of you.
I'll remove as you pointed out one of the lines.
