Problem with £ sign when inserting into editor

Hi, for some reason which I am unable to work out whenever I enter the £ sign in the editor for any page content on the website it changes it to a ? black box in the site, when I look in the MySQL databse it is in the database as a £ sign and not £

Hopesome can advise how to resolve this

Have you tried changing your charType specified in the meta tag of the header? Try UTF-8 and see if that works.
