how to set distinct on childlist

Thread began 3/01/2010 4:13 pm by asnw0764437428 | Last modified 3/05/2010 3:33 pm by asnw0764437428 | 1051 views | 3 replies |

how to set distinct on childlist

I have 2 tables setup. Counties (parent) Business categories (child) All works as it should with the dynamic dropdowns except:

Currently the child recordset is set as;

SELECT bizID, bizCategory, cat_id FROM bizconns GROUP BY bizID

The problem I cannot seem to work out is how to set a distinct within the child recordset.

I'm losing my hair on this one!
Please if anyone can point me in the right direction, thanks.

try using this for the SQL instead:

SELECT bizID, bizCategory, cat_id FROM bizconns GROUP BY bizCategory

The GROUP BY clause should be set on the column that you want to return distinct results on.

When using GROUP BY you need to select all the columns otherwise you will get an error.

SELECT bizID, bizCategory, cat_id
FROM bizconns
GROUP BY bizID, bizCategory, cat_id

The other way of doing this would be to do this:

SELECT DISTINCT bizID, bizCategory, cat_id
FROM bizconns
