Installing Error "Menues can't be actualized"

Installing Error "Menues can't be actualized"

So again this error:

I try to install Theme It (or seems like any other new extension), but I get an error message "Menus can't be actualized, extension will not be installed" (translated from German).

DW CS4, Windows XP SP3.

The solution to uninstall all the extensions and reinstall them is great when there are not many extensions installed. But since I am member of the Extension Library it can't be the solution to reinstall all extensions every time a new extension or an update is available. Or even do a new installation of DW if that would not work.

Are you opening up the extension manager and clicking the insert button, or double clicking the .mxp? Sometimes opening the extension manager and installing from there works better. Also check the version of extension manager you are using. It could be a problem with the Adobe extension manager itself.

It's Extension Manager CS4. I tried 3 ways:

- installed while downloading (Firefox)
- opened Extension Manager and clicked "install" after download
- double-click on the mxp-file after download

Same result.

I have created a support incident for you to allow us to investigate this further. Please update the incident with contact information (maybe skype or IM information if that is better for you) and we will contact you and try to help debug the problem.

Until now I don't use skype or any other IM. We could discuss the problem via telephone or just email.

I tried to install "Theme It" as admin on my computer and it worked, but only in the admin account.

Unfortunately this sounds like a Dreamweaver issue that would have to be taken up with Adobe support. Nobody else has reported this problem yet, but the fact that it installs on your admin account implies it could be some sort of permissions or installation problem with Dreamweaver itself.

I couldnt' find record of that error message anywhere in our forums or on the web, so it must be pretty unique to your configuration. I don't think there is anything wrong with the extension itself causing this particular problem. You may just want to install extensions as administrator in the time being to get around the issue.

The DW and Extension Manager are the newest versions I think.

The error message was just a translation. Here is the German wording:

"Die Menüs können nicht aktualisiert werden. Die Erweiterung wird nicht installiert."

I don't think it's a problem specific to my computer since I had the same error when first installing the first extension at all. There I could solve the problem by uninstalling other extensions (there were only two). But now I have the whole library installed, and that's why I ask again.

I did a google search for that and found:

2141985

it appears this is a problem with the Dreamweaver installation. This user reported a reinstall of Dreamweaver solved the problem for him. This is in line with my diagnosis that the problem is outside of our extension package.

Solved!

Now I also searched on google and found a very easy way to solve the problem:

Delete the following file: … documents/[username]/Dreamweaver/Configuration/Menus/menus.xml, start DW (don't click on any menu, this will crash DW!), start Extension Manager, install the extension by clicking on the install button, close Extension Manager, close DW, and everything is ok :-)))

I found it here: showthread.php?t=27049

!!! Please consider the addition in my next post. !!!

First of all, backup the folder

[username]\Adobe\Dreamweaver CS4\[language]\Configuration\Menus\

Now I must correct the above solution. It needs an additional workaround because the new extension will be installed but all other extensions are no longer visible. I found out that after deleting the menus.xml and installing the new extension, in the file

[username]\Application Data\Adobe\Dreamweaver CS4\[language]\Configuration\Menus\Cache\MenusDWMenu_Insert_WebAssist.xml

all other extensions are missed which were installed before. So I just copied the lines from the old MenusDWMenu_Insert_WebAssist.xml into the new one, and now it seems work.

There are some more files in this folder in which the WebAssist lines are missed. I did the check with "winmerge", a freeware tool.

There is an error message in Theme-It that some backup path is wrong:

Wrong path in [username]\Application Data\Adobe\Dreamweaver CS4\[language]\Configuration\WA_TIR. But that's another problem, I think.
