Problems with International Orders

Problems with International Orders

Hello,

Our website is based in the US. We have a couple of questions about international orders and how eCart5 pertains to such. We have had a few international customers call us and say that they could not order online. Transactions were failed.

Is eCart International ready?

We are using Authorize.net. When an International customer places an order(obviously international customers do not have a 'State') how are they to fill in the form? Is city where they would put their province? Do they have a postal code? or is it called something else? What fields and in what order need to be filled in properly to have a successful order placed?

How could we check our shopping cart to test and see if it works internationally? Is there an easy way to check this without having to wait and hope that an International customers succeeds in a payment?

Please let us know as soon as possible how eCart relates to the above questions. It is rather urgent considering no International orders have been successful. Perhaps there is something further we have to do on our end. Please let me know.

Thank you in advance for your help!
Nenad

eCart can be used for international sales. Your merchant account may limit the types of credit cards that can be accepted. An international customer may try to use a credit card type that is not supported by your merchant account.

yes, international customers should use the State field for the Provence. All counties have postal codes, they may call it something else, but like the state, the zip code field is the closest for them to use.

to test an international order, you will need to modify the local checkout server behavior to use testmode. The local checkout server behavior will be on the confirm page.

you will also need to set your account to use test mode. You need to use tetmode so that the test credit car will not be checked against the billing address.

to troubleshoot why the transaction may be failing, see the "Debugging eCart transaction failed issues" tutorial on the eCart support page:

Thanks Jason!

Are all provinces available currently listed in the default eCart drop down list? Or are there some that we have to add manually?

by default the state list contains all US States and Canadian provinces. If you are marketing to other countries, you will need to manually add the appropriate provinces to the list.

Thanks Jason.

Do you know of anywhere I could get an abbreviated list of all acceptable provinces of the world? I've been trying to find it on the web, and believe it or not, this information is not easy to come by. I have contacted authorize.net to see if they have a list of any and all countries and province they accept during successful checkout. Hopefully they'll have some information for me. If not, do you or your team know from what list and from where we could populate our checkout pages with valid abbreviations?

Thanks

Thanks BeDigital, but is there a world province list anywhere? There already is pretty much every country listed by default in the checkout form. I need provinces.

Thanks!

In my experience hardly any countries use state / provinces, for example here in the UK the equivalent would be our counties but these are no longer required as part of our billing/postal address.

One way to get around this would be to use a text box rather than a drop down list and populate it via AJAX for US/Canadian States so that you get the correct 2 letter code but enable customers form the rest of the world to enter their equivalent as needed.

I have produced a solution along these line for a Australian client (Australia uses a state system) that you can see here www.hiddenvalleyhandcrafts.com.au/ by putting something in the basket and checking out.

Another alternative would be to have a non usa entry in the drop down list which could trigger a text box to appear (proof of concept here index.html)

The trick is not to require customers to select a US state unless they are in the US :-)

Regarding international zip codes, is there a way for a spry to:

1. Not allow non alpha numeric characters - I know "Y" is the alpha numeric only value but don't know how to:

2. Allow for multiple patterns for international zip codes, EG:

var sprytextfield10 = new Spry.Widget.ValidationTextField("sprytextfield10", "zip_code", {format:"zip_custom", pattern:"YYYYY, YYYYYY, YYYYYYY"});

This doesn't work but would help if it did.

1) using "pattern:"YYYYY"" should set it to only allow alpha numeric characters.

2) no spry does not allow for multiple patterns.
