DW connections

Hi

I'm trying to get PS3 working on my local pc whilst connecting to the remote server that hosts the database. The idea being that I can then upload the php pages when I've modified them.

However after trying for several days I cant get a connection to the remote server with DW CS4 although I can connect with phpmyadmin and mysql administrator.

I've posted this on the ADOBE forum but as yet have not had a solution. I'm
hoping someone else has come accross this and can help.

simply...... (is anything simple?)

Using PHP myadmin and mysql administrator I can log into my remote mysql
database using the same settings I use in DW and see all the tables etc.
However in CS4 I get the error

MySql Error 2000

mysqlind cannot connect to MYSQL4.1 using old authentication

what I'm doing is

1.I'm selecting the database tab and then MYSQL connection

2. In the window I'm using:

Conection name: test

mysql server: the ip address given to me by the isp

username: xyz

password: password

If I then press the select database button I get the error message.

The remote mysql database is running mysql 5.0.77 via tcpip

The ISP is Fasthosts based in Gloucester

I've spoken to fasthosts who say that as I can connect using phpmyadmin and
mysql administrator then the problem is within Dreamweaver CS4. I find it
hard to beleive that no one else has ever connected to a remote mysql
database using CS4

Really would appreciate any assistance

thanks

Ian

I've been able to connect using DW CS4. I'm using a different host though (Dreamhost in California).

Connecting remote database!

Hello,
You may want to check with your ISP, Many do not allow remote connections to Database!

Good Luck!

Hi,

The 'authentication' part of the error message is to do with the way that your mySql password has been written to the root (admin) mySql database on your server (which you probably don't have root user access to). This may have been set up before the hosting server system's upgrade to mySql v.5x.

Are you able to create a new database user via your control panel? If so, as a test, create a new user (with full permissions), this will also create a new password. Try setting up a connection using your new user name in Dreamweaver and try connecting again.
