DA- Radio/Checkbox on Update Page

I have been looking through the instruction manuals and tutorials for Data Assist but could not find what I was looking for. When I insert a new record with either checkboxes or radio buttons in my form and then go to the results page to re-edit that record, it doesn't seem that the values of the checkboxes or radio buttons passes over to the Update page. What do I have to do in order to pass those values over to the update page so that the original selection(s) checked remain checked when I go to update that record. I have to continuously recheck those form elements even though I don't want to.
