  You can update the associated .js file in html_editor/custom/ and change the enter mode from:

FCKConfig.EnterMode = 'p;

to:

FCKConfig.EnterMode = 'br';
FCKConfig.ShiftEnterMode = 'p';

The editor will automatically add tags when the enter mode is p or div. You could also try changing it to "div" and it will add a div tag instead of a p tag and that might work better for you.

Just to tune in:
First: The html_editor/custom/ directory does not exist in PowerCMS. I think it is named HTMLEditor/custom/.
Second: There are only two .js files in that /custom/ folder. That is
1: contents_insert_ContentValue1.js
2: contents_update_ContentValue1.js
Further: Both of these files has the code-piece> FCKConfig.EnterMode = 'p'; at line 35. None of them has the code-piece> FCKConfig.ShiftEnterMode = 'p';
Changing just FCKConfig.EnterMode = 'p; to FCKConfig.EnterMode = 'br'; will not make the editor switch mode at all. It keeps putting its <p></p> like before and does not seam to have any effekt on the HTMLEditor at all. To get the <br> I have to use SHIFT-Return. I wish it was the other way around.

By the way, I've noticed that one level up there is a file named fckconfig.js. THIS file has both of the code-pieces described above. But if you switch them as adviced, the HTMLEditor starts putting <p></p> on both Return and SHIFT-Return.
Do I have a monday-version of PowerCMS or am I looking in the wrong directories, or is this Browser-dependent maybe? I use Safari - and Firefox - all the same.

Can anyone knock this problem to the floor?
