PS4 installed in subdomain?

PS4 installed in subdomain?

I have a client and want to install a PS4 store for them. I created a subdomain, e.g., shop.example.com, and uploaded the PS4 files to that subdomain. I walked through the installation without problems, and can access the admin pages. But when I use Navicat to connect to the MySQL server, although I can connect with my specified credentials, I only see the information schema, not the shop database! Further, when I try to edit a theme to customize the shop, I get a 500 Internal Server error when I try to publish the changes (even something simple like changing the background color). Clearly something is out of kilter.

How should I begin to troubleshoot this issue?
