What is the proper way to vertically center text?

In this particular menu I am creating, the item width is 90 and the height is 32 px. Font size is 14 px. Margins and padding all 0.

I set the line height to 32 px, which seems to vertically center the text, but it often takes some trial and error to get the number right to center the text and to not push the height of the item box out.

Is this the proper and best way to vertically center text in the menu?
