html saved as .php

Hi, I have re-saved all my pages to html to .php re-linked each page to the new php ext.
Now I can not view any pages in my local server, I get a message saying; file not found what should firefox do with this file etc. All I did was re-name the .html to .php. in my new php defined site.
the local server worked fine and I was able to view all in local server before I renamed the files to php.

btw: I also resaved my dwt with the php ext as siteassistpro_template.dwt.php
please help! I am hoping to re-solve this quickly so I can add some dynamic ext.

also: menu writer did not let me change the top level links from html to php and
now I do not even see the menu editor icon how did that happen?
thanks for your help
