Changing the size of thumbnails on product results page

I was having quality issues on another thread a while back and was trying to find where the images were being resized. I'm assuming the second part is for the thumbs where the resize is 200. If my thumbs are 150 x 150, for example, does it do anything? Or is this just for when images are larger than these values?
