DataAssist Search: change form element

Hi,

What is the best way to create a drop down menu which will change the results on the page?

Say for example i have an employees recordset on my page which shows:

first name
last name
dob
Country
salary

i want to create a menu which would then change the recordset to show salary = 30000 or 40000

Do i have to create multiple recordsets with a WHERE clause that when the menu selects that it changes to the where clause and if so how do i achieve this?

Many thanks
