well i had already had moved the templates directory to the actual web site root directory and have made changes. that seems to have solved it. this was a dry run though, to see what it would look like. kind of good to have gone thru the run to see what problems might arise. various images have now been replaced in my sandbox. i will follow thru on the directions given in these posts the next time, to see if it works as well as it has when i did it in a round about should-have-been-broken-but-it-works manner...
