The verification code is needed for the URL in order to verify the user. When the user registers a new user record is stored in the db in the ps3_users table. It is the verification code that is stored in here that is sent in the email message.
Can you check your ps3 database in the ps3_users table to see if there is a verification code for your user. If there is then there may be a problem with your email client and removing the verification code from the link. If this is the problem you should be able to register with a new user and a new email address that uses a different client, like gmail or hotmail.
