Start cart from dropdown - impossible?

From what I can see - the only way to work with dynamic products is to put the add to cart button on a repeat region with a recordset.

I've been asked to start the cart off by selecting a single product in a dropdown list.
As that only has one value (I'd assume you'd add the ProducID)

that adds one (ID) item to the cart - but how do you get the rest of the information in? when using a dropdown?

seems impossible to use dropdowns for adding anything but a single value - ie a donation?

thoughts appreciated

in other words

if you can get the ID of a product in the cart - how would you 'push' its corresponding name, price, qty etc in?
I suppose you could now do a recordset based on that ID and then add to cart?

any easier way of doing this via code??
