you are correct that images should not be stored in a database.
the database should show the image name (and perhaps the path too).
if your existing code displays the image name held in the recordset correctly, then you're nearly there.
in Dreamweaver, choose Insert -> Image
From the pop-up, choose data sources as your image source.
Expand the recordset and choose the field where your image name is stored.
if you have the path and filename stored in the database, that should be all you need to do.
if you dont have the path stored with the image name, you need to append this to the beginning of the string.
eg if the value in your field is imagename.jpg, and it is held in the images folder, your code will look something like this...
