Doing an insert/update with a single dropdown list

I want to use a dropdown list where many selections can be made, and then need to insert/update the database with the selections. Does the DD extension help with this? I know the extension is geared towards 2 or more lists that are connected but not sure if the update/insert feature is also there and could be used for the 1 dropdown list case.

If not, where should I look for doing this besides coding it? The example is giving a guest a list of amenities they would like which they can check off (ie, hair drier, bottled water, etc.).
