eCart Confirmation Page question

Why does the confirmation page that is created by eCart use Hidden form fields to bind the Session variables that are used in the Save to Database behaviour? Couldn't the Session variables be bound directly to the Save to Database function without using the hidden form elements?

What advantage do you get by using the hidden form elements?
