More formating issues - using ADDT and PHP

I am being driven to distraction.

As I say, I am using iRite in conjunction with an ADDT insert/update transaction. It should all be very simple but here's my problem:

No matter what I do, no matter which settings I use (on the General, Toolbar, Formatting or Styling tabs), pasting any text (formatted or unformatted or formated directly in the textarea input area), once I have inserted or updated the content, all html is converted to extended characters. These extended characters are then taken as literals and converted to characters rather than parsed.

For instance any paragraph is automatically converted to &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt; which is then displayed as </p><p> in the body of the text instead of actually being treated as html and being parsed. I have played with iRite's formatting settings until I'm blue in the face. Nothing makes any difference.

I have also changed ADDT's method of echoing the text, using KT_escapeAttribute() and htmlentities(). Makes no difference.

Here's the instance of the iRite editor on the page in question:
// WebAssist iRite: Rich Text Editor for Dreamweaver
$WARichTextEditor_1 = CreateRichTextEditor ("text_art", "../../WA_iRite/", "100%", "500px", "Custom", "../custom/articles_form_text_art.js", "".KT_escapeAttribute($row_rsblg_article_art['text_art']) ."");

Does anyone have experience using iRite with ADDT. Any hand coding necessary? Any ideas?
