Menu Writer: Current state <a> link assigning page as current

I am in the learning phase of Web Assist and it has been a great help to efficiently and very effectively code my simple websites. However, try as I might I CANNOT get the 'Current' state to work in MenuWriter. I have tried countless times but can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. There is nothing in the 'Getting Started Guide' to help - leaves out quite a bit of detail this does. When I get to the Design tab and click the 'Current' tab within it I select top page only. Then when click 'Finish' at the end all I get is the 'hover' state working but no current state to indicate the page the User is on. Where oh where am I going wrong? Sorry to be so whingy but I'm quite frustrated and want to get on. Please help - it's driving me nuts : (

Thanks so much for any help you can provide ...
