Styles not showing and buttons have no function

Okay, I have searched and searched for the past 2-3 days and have not found what I'm looking for. When I use the Display Manager to create my cart.php page, I'm having at least 2 issues.

1. I'm using the updateable simple display. Once, today for a short time actually, the page styling looked like the preview in the wizard. Every other time, after the display is in the cart page it has minimal styling. The css sheet is there and the link seems to be correct. Does this sound similar to any other issues?

2. All of the buttons on the page have no redirect information. So they're basically static buttons. I don't mind hand coding, but if I have to do that, where should each button be redirected? Continue shopping and Checkout are obvious, but update cart and clear cart are not to me.

Please help! I'm losing credibility at my job because I keep having to delay the launch of our site and my employer is losing money because we can't get this issue resolved. I trusted your product to do what I needed it to do and I really was not expecting it to be so buggy.
