Do not use MAMP, use XAMPP instead
I am using a training session on lynda.com on MySQL basics, and the trainer recommends XAMPP. He has a version for the course that can be downloaded and works fine on my MacBook from ldcsql.
It installs flawlessly. When you go to your applications folder and click on XAMPP the control panel opens. Click on start MySQL, put in your login password, then click on Start Localhost.
This is an older version of XAMPP, but works fine with Adobe CS3 applications.
