echo to page

if you were to look at this 'if'....if the echoed value as 1 you'd assume that 'Pupil' is being written to the page hut its not. Its echoing 'Clerk' but all the other values are echoed perfectly and not sure I understand why with a value of 1 it is incorrect?

<?php echo (($People->getColumnVal("StaffType") == "0")?"Barrister":($People->getColumnVal("StaffType") == "1")?"Pupil":($People->getColumnVal("StaffType") == "2")?"Clerk":"Admin") ?>

Can you see anything that I am missing?
