I usually suggest storing images in a folder and just saving the path to the image in the database. Databases are not efficient at working with blobs and there are technical hurdles to getting it to work, so it is usually not the best solution.
In order to get it to work you would probably have to create a new page that displays the value from the blob column and then use <img src="newpage.php?id=3"> to display the image on the page from the new page blob data. You may have to save the image type in the database so you can add the correct headers to the page for the image to display properly since it usually goes by the file extension (.jpg, .gif, .png) and you wouldn't have that in the blob field. So you may have to save the image extension in the database if you are supporting multiple image types and then add the necessary headers to the page so it will display properly.
