Will we see more Ajax-style functionality in future releases?

I was just reading a thread in the UE forum about using email to validate a user registration. The expert provided a well-detailed solution using Data and Security Assist and UE.

The solution included the standard set of registration and login pages, as well as the check new username function. If the user name exists, then direct to another page. This is the way we've been doing it for years, even if we only use the standard DW behaviors. But most registrations I've filled out lately check the username without any redirect. Just click the button, the little loading wheel spins and then you get a message.

Is this type of functionality present in any of the data type extensions, or will it be? It would be nice to build sites that match the modern world with the help of the library.
