Search "short cut" buttons for common searches on the results page?

Using the latest data assist for MySQLi. I have a search and results page for a rather complex database table. I'd like to have a few "short cut" buttons right on the results page for the more frequently searched for things like common categories. If the search feature used URL variables, I could just easily include those in the button link. But since the search feature doesn't do that, how do I code a button to trigger the proper query?

I'd want to code it so that it would do something like the following:

WHERE table.field = 1

I've attached both relevant pages. The field I'm primarily interested in is the 'category' field.
