hiding content already set to display none

thats the problem though. Because its a drop down, am already using display:none for the containing <ul>. If you use visibility:hidden it hides the content but retains the space that it takes up

I suppose I am just trying to figure out how to stop the dropo down from triggering in the 768 and below break points
