Powercms within Design Extender and 1and1 webhosts

Hi - Having used Powercms on a few sites over the last few year, I have just signed up for an additional hosting A/c with 1and1 only to find they have moved up to MySQL 5.5 and require SFTP which in its self is OK for file uploads but when I try to create a connection file it then requires MySQLi which the latest version of Design Extender 1.2.1 does not use, does it??

A sample of the MySQLi.php connection file suggested by 1and1 is attached.

I have created a new database and have the correct credentials for it but am unable to create a connection file, therefore I can't start the process of uploading the remaining Powercms files and start running the install wizard.

Any help would be appreciated.
