How do I update the ps4_products table from a inventory table on another database on another server?

This may belong in the PHP/SQL forum but it relates to my Powerstore instance. I'll move if necessary.

My client uses some pretty sophisticated inventory/accounting software that they do not want to abandon for their new shopping cart system. Therefore I am building this around their current system. My goal is to auto-magically pull some of the inventory details from their current SQL database on their server and use it to keep their inventory in sync on the shopping cart which has a separate database on a different server. This only needs to be a one way process, syncing from their database to the Powerstore DB but not sync back.

I am looking for advice on the best approach to do this. I have never tried to link two databases together let alone from different servers.

Last resort is to put the shopping cart on the same server as the other database/software. I'd rather not do that as we do not control it AND they update their software pretty frequently and have been known to delete off files/directories that do not belong to their software.

Appreciate anyone that can point me in the right direction. Thanks.
