Warning: mysql_pconnect() [function.mysql-pconnect]: Access denied for user

I get this error on loading a results page, however, I could test the query from within Dreamweaver with no problem.

Problem was that there was a $ sign in the database password, which is apparently not a legal character for a MySQL password.

I have included that just to help out others who stumble on the same error. However, I still have an issue.

I created some pages using a MySQLi connect string rather than the MySQL connect string I have always used. I did this from within the DataAssist wizard. Like the other page, I can successfully run the query using TEST in Dreamweaver, but on loading the page I get this error.

Warning: mysql_select_db(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL-Link resource in .....
and
Warning: mysql_query(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL-Link resource in

I am stumped. The server supports MySQLi, so why is it not recognizing the page? If I change the connection string to the MySQL version, the page runs just fine.
