Problems transferring to on-line server

I have developed a web site which works perfectly (bar any bugs I have yet to find) on my PC - i.e. using the the localserver. I have transferred all files to my on line server and have updated the databases using Import on the on-line server and using the files generated on the local server using the Export facility. Therefore the on-line database and files should be a the same as what I have on my PC.
So why won't it work? Whenever I try to access a page on-line which needs data from any of the tables it comes up with the unhelpful error message "Error in SQL syntax".It is the same syntax that is on the PC setup which works, so why won't it work on the on-line server?Clearly a basic newby error but I would appreciate a pointer as to what it is! Thanks. URL of on-line setup is bega.org.uk if that helps.

I note that this question has been asked before but the answers usually address a specific issue rather than this very basic and general one so unfortunately have not helped me..
