the activation is based on the MAC address of the active network card. If the active network card charges, for example switching from a wireless connection, to a wired connection, it will require reactivation.

There are other scenarios that can cause the active network card to change such as using VPN software, most VPN Software will create a Virtual Network card with a changing MAC Address.
