MySQL password reset

I downloaded wampp on my computer a few months back and set the MySQL database password and completely forgot what it was as I wasn't planning on using it.

Is it possible to uninstall wamp and go through the process of setting it up with a new mysql database user name?
I have also downloaded xampp because of this in hopes that I could just use that for my database needs and get rid of wampp altogether but do not understand how to get into the phpmyadmin in xampp.

Do the two soft wares contradict one another?

I guess the answer I am looking for is the most simple solution to access a database for webbassist software given the mess I have already created by loosing that MySQL password.

Thanks a bunch
