Why isn't my regular expression pattern working on the form validation?

Jason ByrnesWebAssist

for the telephone field, you have used type="tel"

when using j query pattern formatting, you should use type="text" instead of the HTML 5 element types.

the jquery HTML5Validate script is used to create standard HTML 4 forms and make them act like HTML 5 forms across all browsers.

see this page for a description of the HTML 5 element types:
http://html5doctor.com/html5-forms-input-types/

"tel

tel differs from email and url in that no particular syntax is enforced. Phone numbers differ around the world, making it difficult to guarantee any type of specific notation except for allowing only numbers and perhaps a + symbol to be entered."

so the tel element type really only supports numbers to be entered, and perhaps a leading +.
