Moving from localhost to Live server
Setting up first dynamic site using PowerCMS
I followed the videos to then letter and successfully set up the testing server on my desktop Mac. Also succeeded in creating a new dummy PHP page and adding the PowerCMS functionality to it.
However, all this was a pre-amble to setting up PowerCMS to work on an existing Dreamweaver site. Again followed the tutorials and eventually, after much trial and error got the server and database connections right to test and preview one sample page, which had been saved as PHP, functioning on localhost.
And this is where it started to fall apart.
Question 1: When attempting to set up PowerCMS on the live server would you create a new database connection or modify the "working" localhost connection? Having scoured the forums I think you need to do the latter. However, would you also have to export the MySQL from the localhost connection and import it into the ISP's MySQL connection, or is this something that PowerCMS does for you behind the scenes?
Having fairly randomly tried to delete and replace various WebAssist folders on both the local testing server and the live remote server, in order to make a clean start, I then found that even the localhost connections were broken and I was getting many error messages.
Question 2: Which folders and files should be removed in order to start afresh? Is there an "uninstall" option?
There is nothing that cannot be recreated, despite the fact that I have set up an Administrator and Users for PowerCMS. Or should I persevere with what might have become a "corrupted" installation?
As a non-programmer, and designer of 30 year's experience, I do find that both the WebAssist tutorials and forum replies presume quite a lot of expertise to fill in the gaps between the tutorials.
It's like being able to drive a car without the need to know all the spark plug adjustments and engineering details that make it work! Having said that, when the software works it's a dream to use.
Hoping someone can advise soon, as the amount of trial and error on my part to date is now putting this project behind schedule.
