Datepicker date format - need help

I'm sure this is user error somewhere along the line, but I'm trying to get the date picker to layout in this format yyyy-mm-dd. I have changed it in the events_insert.php file that was created using DataAssist. I have the date picker correctly displaying the format that I want but I continue to get an error of "Invalid Format" when trying to insert data.

I'm using this particular page for an Events calendar where I need to display the query results by comparing the dates using the year, month and day. I will include the insert file that I'm using.
