userupdate page not working double opt registration

Dreamweaver CC on a PC - No experience in PHP/mySQL
Last time I did a website was in 1999 (you guys have changed things up a bit...LOL)
This is a website for me, it's a dream from many years of a hobby/passion.

I am at my wits end. I know there is something I have missed, but I can't figure it out. I have watched the video tutorial at least 8 times. I have deleted the all the pages, the WebAssist directory, SpryAssists directory, my database, 5 times and redid the tutorial. 2 of those times my Dreamweaver CC crashed, so my bad. 1 time I was adding my template as I went along. The last 2 times I followed the tutorial to the "T". My problem is that no matter what, when the email comes I click the link to verify. It verifies, updates the table, lets me log in, though it doesn't go to the page I have that is protected, but that is just not having the link to it. I will figure that out.
But, I can not go to the userupdate.php I get a server error message: ERROR 500 which to me mean "Oops"

Anyway, my updateuser.php has an error on link 123, which is in the "//WA DataAssist Update"

Two questions;
1) to do a complete delete of all the double opt in section, do I also delete the "connections" directory? - I want to learn this, I want it to work, doing is learning, right? I just want to know how to CLEAR IT ALL OUT, all directories, server behaviors, bindings, etc so I can start fresh.

2) I am not opposed to help if any one else has had this problem.

I have uploaded a text file and have separated the section Dreamweaver has a "red" marker on. And put 10 or 12 asterisks in front of the specific line

Also, so sorry for all the problems,
The registration.php is loading "admin" and a password in the form automatically, as soon as the page loads, should it do that? Shouldn't it all be blank?
