Option choices slowing performance

We have a power store implementation with a product with multiple options. Each time an option is selected the 'Checking Availability' dialog appears and there is a pause before the next set of options become available. As there are no availability issues is there a way of removing this or speed up the process in any way as it is a little slow ?
